The Academy of Indigenous Studies

The Academy of Indigenous Studies is a 20-credit program for grade 10 FH Collins School students. The program encompasses a vision for student success and learning that allows students to learn through experience, activity and the land. While a broad focus on the Yukon Indigenous culture is examined, students will experience a more holistic approach to learning through local Yukon culture. Students will participate in authentic, hands-on Indigenous activities aimed at enriching their understanding of the local culture while making a positive contribution to the community. Students will also have opportunity to examine leadership and actively participate in leadership activities throughout the school and community. This is a unique and innovative opportunity for students to gain a greater sense of how their interaction with local Indigenous culture has an effect on future generations of Yukoners.
